Crop tops have become a key fashion item this Spring. In fact, they have been gaining popularity on the fashion scene for a while now, and no, they are not the kind Britney or Christina wore in the 1990’s.
The new crop tops, like the former teen idols, have matured somewhat too. Crop tops today are chic, sophisticated and can be ultra-posh when worn the right way.
They cut-off just above the waistline, so pairing them with high waisted bottoms is a smart choice. The idea is to flaunt a sliver of bare midriff in a stylish, tasteful and wearable way.
For those of us who are concerned about our muffin bellies going on display, or work in a more conservation office environment, a clever way to do this trend would be to wear a slim camisole underneath a boxy cut cropped top.
Here are some pointers if you’ll like to give the crop top a try:
When wearing a body-clinging crop top, try playing it up with proportions by pairing it with an A-line or princess skirt. The volume of the full skirt gives you curves and that coveted, hourglass shape. You can achieve the same effect with a maxi skirt or wide leg trousers too.
Correspondingly, if your bottoms are the ones that are more snug to your body, say a pair of tapered pants or skinny jeans, pair it with a loose or boxy crop top.
Another fun way to spice up your office wardrobe is to wear a crop top with a men’s-cut blazer thrown over. It’s a great way to balance your proportions while creating a slim silhouette. The over-sized jacket also de-emphasizes the body-conscious top.
Otherwise, take a cue from Jennifer Lawrence who wears a crop top with matching bottoms making it look like a dress split into two. If the pencil skirt is too form fitting for your taste, go with an A-line one. The look is fresh and modern, very “now”.
These days, crop tops can be worn to galas and formal events too. Check out how Taylor Swift and Zooey Deschanel elegantly wear their crop tops for red carpet events. Super elegant, uber sexy!
Confidence is the only ingredient necessary to wear crop tops well. Let’s be brave and take the plunge together! Let us know which one of the above is your favorite look. Put your comments below.
