Sweatshirts for Spring

The verdict is in! The humble sweatshirt is officially a fashion must-have for Spring. Sweatshirts this season are as chic as they are comfortable and that’s probably the reason why this sporty trend topped the runways at New York Fashion Week.

Don’t just go for the classic heather grey knits, why not refresh your wardrobe with some fun sheer, colour blocked, lace, printed and even embellished sweatshirts. These new style sweatshirts are no longer relegated to the gym. The slouchy silhouette gets a well deserved makeover this spring, with brighter hues and splashier patterns.

A great style for this spring is the sweatshirt and skirt combo. This style is perfect for the office, for going out,  for meetings… basically any occasion as the sporty side of the sweatshirt is toned down by a skirt and sexy heels. For a drama-mama look, try pairing a printed/graphic sweatshirt with a leather pencil skirt and stilettos.

The thing I like about this sporty chic top is that it’s a great transitional piece from winter to spring. Not too thick, but not too thin, choose according to your accompanying air-conditioned environment. The sweatshirt is always comfy, and now be made to look sophisticated, what’s not to like?

Another fun option for the sweatshirt this season is to match the sporty top with trousers. Opt for a sloppy oversized sweatshirt (preferably with a simple statement print) with skinny jeans, leggings, shorts and sneakers or high heels for a more sophisticated vibe.

The other way to do this look is with a fitted sweatshirt, boyfriend jeans and high heels. The key to perfecting this look is balance your silhouette. That is to say that – if the sweatshirt is oversized keep the bottom side fitted and vice versa.

Get creative. Don’t shy away from what appears to not go with a sweatshirt: hot heels, red lips, feminine bags, statement clutches… whatever you desire! Give it a go!
